Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group says: “Enough with the woke nagging!”

Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group has become a place for a rallying cry for gamers frustrated with what they perceive as overzealous content moderation and alteration of their favorite games.

Sweet Baby Inc., a company offering diversity and inclusion consulting services to the gaming industry, has found itself at the heart of a heated debate about the balance between representation and creative freedom.

And what is the source of this whole issue? A community that is said to be “indisputable” but does not hesitate to denigrate other ideas at every opportunity: The ”woke” community…

Why is there a Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group?

The controversy stems from a perception among some gamers that Sweet Baby Inc.’s involvement leads to censorship, sanitization, and a watering down of artistic vision in games.

Specifically, concerns talked about in the Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group include:

  • Changing original content: The fear that Sweet Baby Inc.’s recommendations pressure developers to alter established characters, storylines, or gameplay elements to adhere to a specific DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) standard
  • “Forced” inclusion: The perception that representational diversity is being artificially inserted in ways that feel unnatural or inauthentic to the game’s setting or narrative
  • Stifling creativity: The worry that developers will become overly cautious and self-censor to avoid potential backlash, limiting innovative or edgy content

Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group member Midnight Leo expressed her discomfort about the controversy like this:

”WE GAMERS KNOW RACISM IS BAD! WE GAMERS KNOW SEXISM IS BAD! WE GAMERS KNOW HOMOPHOBIA AND TRANSPHOBIA IS BAD! We DO NOT Need Companies like SweetBaby Inc Constantly Nagging and Lecturing Us About All This, BECAUSE WE ALREADY KNOW!! AND WE WANT A BREAK FROM YOUR CONSTANT WOKE NAGGING AND WOKE PANDERING!! WE DO NOT GO AROUND COMMITTING HATE CRIMES!!”

”Seriously, we just want to be left alone and play games that are entertaining, not nagging us about real life issues and politics,”

– Midnight Leo on Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group

This group acts as a watchdog, flagging games suspected of having undergone Sweet Baby Inc.’s consulting process. The group’s goal is to allow gamers to make informed choices about which titles to support.

The Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group’s existence and rapid growth illustrate the depth of dissatisfaction a substantial portion of the gaming community feels toward perceived interference in artistic expression.

What is Sweet Baby Inc?

Sweet Baby Inc. is a consultancy firm specializing in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) analysis within the entertainment industry. Their work in the gaming realm involves reviewing games and offering developers feedback on potentially problematic content, including the portrayal of race, gender, sexuality, and other sensitive topics.

The company argues that this service helps create more ”welcoming and inclusive” gaming environments. The most popular titles they have worked on are:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Are games the right place to be politically correct?

Let’s talk about this sensitive issue: Political correctness.

It would not be right to be sarcastic, but the absurdity of the PC Principal in Southpark is becoming more and more stereotypical every day. We differentiated people in our own eyes then we said, “Let’s not hurt someone, let’s not draw the anger of an oppressed group,” and started work within this framework.

What did it all lead to? You are now lynched if you are not politically correct on social media because there is and will always be a ”group of people” that will be offended whenever you actually start to talk about your own ideas on ”sensitive” topics.

And now, it is not possible for members of the Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group, nor for company employees, to talk about this ongoing Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group controversy in a rational discussion about… Well almost in any sensitive topic.

Why do we say that? Let us leave you with the now-deleted posts on X by Sweet Baby Inc’s consultant Maya Felix:

Back to the question: Are games the right place to be politically correct?

As Midnight Leo mentioned, for many people, games are a method to get away from reality. After all, none of us are challenging Greek gods like Kratos or participating in illegal car races like in Need for Speed. And if you do, good for you!

The wow factor of games has always been the characteristic of individuals and their adventures. To change the stances, thoughts, and appearances of these characters for the sake of political correctness or, more directly, to force gamers who want to move away from reality into the middle of reality once again… Isn’t that oppressing another group?

The idea that ”if it’s not on my side, it’s my worst enemy” is humanity’s biggest problem today. And no, the gaming world will never adopt this mentality, even if they beat each other to death in-game just 30 seconds ago. Gaming is fun and will always be just for fun.

The gaming community is not the place for political correctness, we’re just a bunch of kids who want to have a good time and don’t want the familiar faces to change.

What needs to be done?

The Sweet Baby Inc detected Steam group controversy is unlikely to be resolved quickly. It reflects the evolving conversation about representation and inclusivity in gaming. Finding a way to make games welcoming to everyone while maintaining artistic integrity is an ongoing challenge that all stakeholders – developers, consultants, and gamers alike – need to thoughtfully address.
