Instagram boss Adam Mosseri just dropped a bombshell: now, everyone around the globe can download public Reels straight to their gadgets. Forget the old days when you could only stash Reels for later on the Instagram app. From now on, you will not need third-party software or websites to download Instagram Reels!

How to download Instagram Reels

According to Mosseri, the process is as simple as a few taps. Users can now tap on the share button and select the download option to save a Reel directly to their devices. It’s worth noting that downloaded Reels will bear an Instagram watermark, showcasing the account name — a feature familiar to users of other popular short video platforms like TikTok.

For those concerned about privacy, Instagram provides an option for account holders to disable the download feature for their Reels. This setting can be adjusted in a few steps: Settings > Privacy > Reels and Remix, then toggle the “Allow people to download your Reels” option.

This isn’t just a small step; it’s a giant leap. Instagram teased the Reels download thing in June for U.S. folks, and now, it’s a global fiesta. Instagram’s pushing boundaries, giving the world a front-row seat to the Reels experience. Here’s the nitty-gritty: Reels with licensed tunes won’t carry any audio in the downloaded version. Only the OG audio tracks keep their sounds. Why? Instagram wants to play fair with music creators and the bigwigs who own the tunes. More information can be found below.

Let’s not forget Instagram’s crown. With over a billion monthly users, Instagram isn’t just an app; it’s a digital realm where everyone shares their lives one square at a time. From influencers to your next-door neighbor, Instagram’s popularity is undeniable. The platform’s knack for introducing features like Reels downloads only adds more fuel to its fame fire.

What about copyrights?

A common query arises concerning copyrighted music in downloaded Reels. Mosseri clarified that if a Reel contains licensed audio, the downloaded video will be audio-free. This measure ensures that music creators and rightsholders are duly compensated for their work. By restricting audio in downloaded Reels with licensed music, Instagram maintains its commitment to supporting artists and labels for each play.

In a digital landscape where short-form videos continue to captivate audiences, Instagram’s move to enable global Reels downloads is a welcome addition, opening new avenues for users to engage with and share content seamlessly. Stay tuned for more updates as Instagram continues to evolve its features for a more connected and interactive user experience.
