With upgrades to both design and usability, the device opens up a myriad of new use cases, promising a more seamless experience for users.
What you need to know about the new Samsung SmartTag2
Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the brand’s commitment to enhancing convenience through innovation. She stated,
With the Galaxy SmartTag2, we set out to make sure Samsung Galaxy users can find their belongings in an easy and intuitive way. With an enhanced finding experience and a longer battery life, Galaxy SmartTag2 will provide users with greater peace of mind for longer and in more situations.
Enhanced features for effortless tracking
The Galaxy SmartTag2 introduces a groundbreaking Lost Mode, allowing users to input their contact information. When someone discovers an item with a SmartTag2 attached, they can effortlessly retrieve the owner’s message and contact details by simply scanning the tag with their smartphone. This ingenious feature expands the device’s utility, making it an invaluable tool for pet owners, ensuring their contact information is always readily available.
Furthermore, the device now boasts an improved Compass View feature, offering clear directional guidance to locate the SmartTag2 in relation to the user. This feature is accessible on UWB-supported Galaxy smartphones, such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The SmartThings Find app has also undergone significant upgrades. New Galaxy SmartTags will now automatically install a shortcut to the app on the user’s smartphone, streamlining the process. The app’s full-screen map view and intuitive interface enhance the overall user experience, making tracking even more seamless.
When transitioning to a new Galaxy smartphone, the Samsung SmartTag2 seamlessly re-syncs with the user’s device through their Samsung account.
Extended battery life, rugged design, and added security
The SmartTag2 offers a brand-new Power Saving Mode, significantly prolonging battery life. With this mode enabled, the device can last up to an impressive 700 days. Even in Normal Mode, users can expect an extended battery life of 500 days, a substantial 50% increase from previous models. This flexibility empowers users to track their valuables over extended periods, from keys to bicycles.
Designed for ease of use, the Samsung SmartTag2 features a compact, ring-shaped design, reinforced with a durable metal loop. This not only enhances its durability but also allows for accessories like clips and keyrings to be attached. Additionally, the device is now rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, enabling tracking in more challenging environments.
For pet owners, the Samsung SmartTag2 introduces a new pet walking mode, simplifying the process of logging walks with furry companions.
Retaining the best features of its predecessors, the Samsung SmartTag2 utilizes Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and UWB capabilities, incorporating Augmented Reality (AR) Find technology for visual guidance. It offers a maximum Bluetooth range of 120 meters and allows control of smart home appliances through the SmartThings app.
Samsung prioritizes user privacy, ensuring that the device’s location is only accessible with explicit user permission. SmartThings Find encrypts user data and is fortified by Samsung Knox for an additional layer of security. The inclusion of “Unknown tag alerts” offers users protection against unauthorized tracking.
Seamlessly integrating with SmartThings Station, the Samsung SmartTag2 becomes an indispensable tool for keeping track of valuables. From remotes to pets’ collars, users can rely on Samsung’s commitment to privacy and security for peace of mind.
