Everything to know about Meta Quest 3

Meta Quest 3 introduces a host of groundbreaking features that promise to redefine our perception of virtual reality. From seamless blending of the digital and physical realms to a powerhouse of specifications, the Meta Quest 3 is poised to set a new standard for immersive experiences.

Let’s delve into the details of the new model.

Release date and pre-orders

The Meta Quest 3 has officially hit the market, and enthusiasts can pre-order their units starting today. The first batch of shipments is scheduled to commence on October 10. As an added incentive, those opting for the 128GB model will receive the popular game Asgard’s Wrath 2, which is available at the Meta Quest store for $59.99, for free.

Pricing details

In the United States, the Meta Quest 3 is priced at $499 for the 128GB model, a $200 increase from its predecessor. For users requiring more storage, the 512GB variant is available at $649. In the United Kingdom, prices start at £479 for the 128GB model and £619 for the larger 512GB version.

Meanwhile, in the European Union, the headset is priced at €549 and €699 for the 128GB and 512GB models respectively. Down under in Australia, the base model with 128GB storage retails at AU$799.

Powerhouse specifications

The Meta Quest 3 packs a punch with its impressive specifications. Equipped with a brand-new Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, it boasts double the graphics processing power compared to its predecessor, the Quest 2. This is complemented by a RAM upgrade, offering 8GB for seamless performance.

The display has also received a significant boost, now featuring a 4K+ Infinite Display, providing stunning visuals with 2,064 x 2,208 pixels per eye. This translates to a nearly 30% increase in resolution compared to the Meta Quest 2.

A blended reality experience

One of the standout features of the Meta Quest 3 is its ability to seamlessly blend virtual and physical environments. With high-fidelity, full-color passthrough technology, users can now see their surroundings while immersed in the virtual world.

Stereoscopic depth perception takes interaction to a new level, allowing users to engage with characters and objects in the physical space around them. This breakthrough in mixed reality technology opens up a wide range of possibilities for natural and intuitive interactions.

Enhanced graphics and display

The Quest 3 promises a visually stunning experience with its 4K+ Infinite Display resolution. This means users can expect crisper details and more lifelike experiences. The field of view has also been expanded, providing an impressive 104° horizontal and 96° vertical range. This wider field of view enhances peripheral vision, creating a more immersive virtual environment.

Perfect fit for every user

Meta has gone the extra mile in redesigning the Quest 3 to ensure a comfortable and personalized fit for every user. Whether you wear glasses or have a specific hairstyle, the headset offers customizable options to accommodate various face shapes and preferences.

This attention to detail ensures that users can enjoy extended periods of wear without discomfort.

Final thoughts

The Meta Quest 3 represents a significant advancement in virtual reality technology. With a host of meaningful upgrades, including a slimmer design, enhanced displays, a more powerful processor, and improved controllers, it promises an immersive experience like never before.

However, with a $200 price increase over its predecessor, it will need to demonstrate superior performance to justify the investment. Meta’s commitment to mixed reality leaves us cautiously optimistic that the Quest 3 will indeed be a worthy upgrade for enthusiasts seeking the pinnacle of VR experiences.
