Google Pixel 8 leaked: New images

The Google Pixel 8 series has not been an exception to the rule that Google’s phones leak more frequently than others, as we have seen multiple renderings and spec leaks. But now that we’ve seen genuine hands-on images of the Google Pixel 8 Pro, there have been leaks that may be the biggest and most reliable yet.

A person who claimed to have obtained the phone “from the device team in Google for testing” shared these on Reddit. The photographs were saved by Android Police and other users before they later erased the post and their whole Reddit account.

These reveal a device that resembles the renders of the Google Pixel 8 Pro that have previously leaked and differs noticeably from the Pixel 7 Pro in some key ways.

Exclusive leak: Exciting details emerge about Google Pixel 8

These changes include a screen that appears to have less of a curve (though it appears to still have a slight curve) and a camera design that is slightly different. The three lenses on the back of the device are now housed in a black panel shaped like a pill, and there is an additional sensor (believed to be for temperature sensing based on previous leaks) located under the flash.  The corners appear to be rounded more than they are on the Pixel 7 Pro, according to the pictures.

It seems as though this Google Pixel 8 Pro could be in a case, and even if it’s not, it’s a prototype model, so this probably wouldn’t be a retail-ready finish anyway. Therefore, we shouldn’t put too much stock in the color of the phone or the strange pattern on the back of the device.

Google Pixel 8: Specs

These photographs not only reveal the design but also display some of the technical specifications on-screen, like 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space. There is also the term ‘Zuma,’ which has been previously related to the Tensor G3 chipset that we anticipate will be used to power the phone, and the word ‘husky,’ which has been previously linked to the Pixel 8 Pro as a codename. Both of these words can be found in the leak.

As is customary when dealing with leaks, we should take everything of this with a grain of salt; nonetheless, it does appear to be authentic, especially considering that the poster has now deleted their whole Reddit account and all of the labels on the back of the device indicate that it is a test device.

We probably won’t get a definitive answer to the question of how accurate this is until sometime in October, which is when the Pixel 8 line is most likely going to be released. But taking into account Google’s track record with leaking information, we have no doubt that many more photographs and speculations concerning this greatest phone competitor will surface before that.

Google Pixel 8: Price and release date

We may make some informed assumptions based on information about prior Pixel releases about the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 release and pricing specifics, which are currently unknown. The price has been one of the Pixel series’ main selling elements for the previous two generations. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 offer purchasers some of the best value on the market, while being priced comparable to other top-tier flagships (the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro). Both phones were able to outperform the competition at $600, although it wasn’t by much.

Although it’s questionable, we sincerely hope Google can continue to charge that price for another generation. It’s possible that all Pixel devices will see a price hike in 2023 based on the fact that the Pixel 7a costs $50 more than the Pixel 6a at $500. To learn the answer, we must wait.

When it comes to phone launches, Google has developed some regular trends, announcing the devices early in the month and releasing them a week or two later. An October release date thus seems like a safe bet. The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro should arrive on shop shelves in mid-to late October if previous Pixel release dates are any indication.

Of course, just because we anticipate an October release date doesn’t preclude an early revelation. Google I/O was where we got our first peek at the Pixel 7 series last year. The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro may still sneak a peek before the formal launch even if Google chose to introduce its new Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet during I/O this year.
