Do you want to know how to build a Dwarf Fortress archery range? The theme of the game Dwarf Fortress is being ready for anything. You’ll need archers if you want a powerful castle that can repel dangers before they become dangers. But, the training your archers undergo will determine how excellent they are, so you’ll need to know how to set up Dwarf Fortress archery ranges.

Marksdwarves are trained on archery ranges that have been built using archery targets. They can be made of wood, which calls for carpentry; stone, glass, or metal, which calls for metal crafting; or glass, which calls for masonry. They can also be constructed with blocks made of the aforementioned components. In this article, we’re going to explain in detail everything you need to set up a Dwarf Fortress archery range and how to do so.

How to build a Dwarf Fortress archery range?

You will need archers to train before you build a Dwarf Fortress archery range. It’s simple to set up a squad, but more challenging to arm them with crossbows and bolts. First, after choosing your archer squad or squads, you must select “equip” from the menu.

They need to have crossbows, quivers, bags, and bolts assigned to them. Although not required, armor will be helpful. You can make crossbows in the Bowyer’s Workshop, quivers and bags in the Leather Works, and metal bolts in the Metalsmith’s Forge.

Your archers will retrieve the bolts from the barracks after the ammunition has been transported there

Give each of your archers one of those components. If they are having trouble with any of these, you might need to install a chest in an already-existing barracks so that your archers can take supplies out of it. Your archers will retrieve the bolts from the barracks after the ammunition has been transported there.

You’ll need to dig out or construct a room that is at least ten blocks long so that the archers can train successfully. Also, keep in mind that the range size must be sufficient for the Marksdwarf to stand at least one tile away from the target.

When the space is complete, go to the zones menu and designate the entire space as an archery range. Four buttons can be found in the top left corner of the new zone’s menu. They serve as shooting direction indicators. Choose the button facing left if your dwarves are positioned on the right side of the area and firing to the left.

In order to build targets, enter the Military tab after selecting the Building tab and you will be able to construct archery targets with whatever material you want

All that’s left are some targets. Enter the Military tab after selecting the Building tab. You will be able to construct archery targets from the materials of your choice. Note that an archery target can only be used by one soldier at a time. Because of this, if you have several targets close to one another, you must define a training area for each of them separately because only one will be used at a time.

Just set the squad to train now, and they’ll head over to your Dwarf Fortress archery range and start shooting! If you’re not enjoying Dwarf Fortress yet, take a look at the game’s Steam Page and enjoy the beautiful colony sim game. But if you already are inside the fortress and need help figuring out how to feed your animals, make sure to check out our article on the matter: Dwarf Fortress: How to feed animals?
