It was known for a while that in the upcoming Joker movie, Lady Gaga will appear as Harley Quinn. Today, as a valentine’s gift, Todd Phillips shares two pictures from Joker: Folie à Deux, in one of which we take the first look at Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix.
The Warner Bros. sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux,” scheduled for release on October 4, 2024, will star the Oscar winner Lady Gaga as we have known for a while now. There are few plot details available for the 2019 movie’s sequel, for which Joaquin Phoenix received the Best Actor Oscar.
Reportedly, the Arkham Asylum and its residents will be the subject of a musical movie, with a cast that includes Zazie Beetz (who is reprising her role as Arthur Fleck’s neighbor from the 2019 film), Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland as inmates, as well as “Industry” breakout star Harry Lawtey. In the 2019 movie, Phoenix won the Best Actor Oscar for the Gotham City corruption tale, which utilized “Taxi Driver” and “King of Comedy” stylings to portray the horror bubbling beneath the emergence of the mega-rich political family the Waynes. We also got a peek at a would-be Batman growing up without parents. It was announced that in the second Joker movie, Lady Gaga will portray Joker’s beloved “puddin’.”
The first R-rated film to make over $1 billion globally, ‘Joker’ was the sixth-highest-grossing movie of 2019. It’s one of the most successful comic book movies ever, with a total worldwide gross of $1.074 billion and a budget that ranges between 55 and 70 million dollars. Eleven Oscar nominations were given to “Joker,” with Joaquin Phoenix winning Best Actor and Hildur Gunadóttir taking home Best Original Score.
In the meantime, Lady Gaga’s performance in “House of Gucci” last year earned her a nomination for the Oscar for Best Actress. Despite receiving the New York Film Critics Circle Award for her portrayal of the dumped fashion heiress, the movie’s Oscar ambitions were dashed. And even though Olivia Colman won Best Actress for “The Favourite,” she still has an Oscar for Best Original Song for “A Star Is Born,” which she won.
