According to a recent rumor, PlayStation will soon announce a ton of third-party content, maybe hinting at the impending PlayStation State of Play 2023. In 2022, Sony had a lot of State of Play events that showcased both first- and third-party games from various genres.

The State of Play presentations were typically smaller gatherings that highlighted indie games, but in 2022 this pattern changed as a result of numerous significant announcements. In addition to Resident Evil 4 and Tekken 8 videos, there were also new reveals for Final Fantasy 16, God of War Ragnarok, Street Fighter 6, and other games. Now, it appears that Sony will soon reveal a new showcase that will put a strong emphasis on third-party content.

We might see the PlayStation State of Play 2023 very soon

The Snitch, a purportedly retired leaker, revealed fresh information on Discord, saying they got a DM from a trustworthy source concerning Sony’s plans. It mentions that the PlayStation State of Play 2023 will soon make an announcement about “third-party stuff,” presumably alluded to as a new State of Play event. Fans should be aware that even if The Snitch was a trustworthy leaker, they should still treat every rumor with caution.

What to expect from the PlayStation State of Play 2023?

Sony’s third-party partners may have a sizable amount of material to unveil for 2023 and beyond as the last State of Play expo was in September 2022. Metal Gear Solid is said to be getting a remake, and sources indicate that it will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Sony might perhaps take advantage of this occasion to reveal the Metal Gear Solid remake or other exclusive third-party games on the PlayStation State of Play 2023.

Additionally, it could not be restricted to only exclusive games, as prior PlayStation gatherings included titles like Street Fighter 6 and Hogwarts Legacy. The Snitch’s leak hasn’t yet confirmed that Sony will have a State of Play event, but it’s the most plausible scenario given the facts we currently have.

Sony skipped last year’s first-party announcement of PlayStation State of Play

First-party content is often reserved for PlayStation Showcase occasions, but Sony didn’t organize one in 2022. Despite making some first-party announcements last year, there were speculations that Sony skipped the PlayStation Showcase because of the continuing investigation into Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. The biggest one was maybe a confirmation of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s release timetable on the PlayStation State of Play 2023, which is presently set for the fall of 2023.

What was revealed at the last Sony State of Play?

The announcements for PSVR 2 and third parties predominated at the most recent State of Play, which took place on September 13.

Tekken 8 was ultimately shown, we learned that Like A Dragon: Ishin was being remade, and a new God of War Ragnarok teaser was released. Along with teasers for Pacific Drive, Rise of the Ronin, and Synduality, this also featured a look at the unique Hogwarts Legacy quest for the PlayStation.

Two additional details for the next VR headset, the PSVR 2, were revealed. This showcase unveiled the upgraded edition of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge as well as the arrival of Demeo on PS5 and PSVR 2 in 2019.
