The Dodge Ram electric truck is a revolutionary vehicle that combines the power and toughness of a traditional pickup truck with the efficiency and sustainability of electric technology.
While Chevy is getting set to debut the Silverado EV this year and Ford is busy producing thousands of F-150 Lightnings at its Dearborn, Michigan facility, Ram has so far refrained from joining the electric-truck arms race. However, Ram has recently shown the 1500 Revolution BEV concept at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show, previewing an electric 1500 pickup that will debut in 2024 and offering the first clues as to the brand’s potential creative path.
Reviewing the concept: Dodge Ram electric truck
With a swept-back windscreen and a stretched wheelbase, the design has a modern appearance. Ram describes the lighted “RAM” insignia between the LED headlights as having a “tuning fork” design, and it dominates the blacked-out front end. Tow hooks are hidden under the robust skid plate in the bumper, and LEDs also make up the taillights and Ram badge on the tailgate.
A powered frunk, a charge port, flush door handles, side steps, and a rear step are all standard on the Revolution, and we anticipate that most of these elements will be available, at least on more expensive models. To extend the bed by a few more feet and accommodate heavier loads, the tailgate may also be opened outward like barn doors.
The design also has coach doors, which allow Dodge Ram electric truck to remove the B-pillar to facilitate entrance and exit by opening in the opposite direction from the front doors. These fancy doors are probably not going to be used in production, but the lightweight, 3D-printed cameras that take the place of the sideview mirrors might if U.S. rules change. The wheels of the 1500 Revolution, similar to those on Rolls-Royces, have light-up center caps and are 24 inches in diameter and 35 inches in diameter, respectively.
In comparison to the present gas-powered truck, the cabin is four inches longer and has “Ram Track,” a floor-mounted rail attachment system that enables various interior designs. The rails, which are also present in the frunk and bed, serve as tie downs for cargo. The compact seats, which have speakers, grab grips, and integrated seatbelts, may be removed or folded flat.
Third-row jump seats, which Ram claims are installed in the powered mid-gate and can be fixed in the bed, recalling the Subaru Brat of the late 1970s, can also be used to complement the two rows of seating. The mid-gate of Dodge Ram electric truck is also supposed to feature a pass-through that reaches all the way to the frunk—an idea that was previously seen on the Bollinger B2—and can fit objects that are 18 feet long. Unfortunately, Ram didn’t provide any pictures showing the jump seats.
In keeping with the idea of cabin customization, the armrest may be turned into a desk, and the center console can be removed to expand the internal space. On the dashboard, orange ambient lighting flows behind a dual display configuration with a 28-inch touchscreen, revealing the “tuning fork” appearance once more. The upper screen appears to be able to slide on the Ram Track system, while the lower screen may be removed and used as a tablet or modified into three distinct configurations (minimum view, extended view, and full screen view).
The cabin of Dodge Ram electric truck prototype is jam-packed with high-end technology, including a 360-degree camera system, an AI-powered voice assistant, and augmented reality in the head-up display. Small screens are integrated into the octagonal steering wheel, and electro-chromatic panels with individually programmable opacity are installed on the glass roof. The interior is also filled with environmentally friendly elements, such as a floor made of recycled rubber and cork and leather manufactured from an apple industry byproduct.
Ram claims that the Shadow Mode on the 1500 Revolution will save time for quick excursions around a job site since the Dodge Ram electric truck will autonomously follow the driver as they walk in front. Additionally, there are a number of cabin modes that, with the push of a button, change the suspension, window opacity, seating arrangements, and more.
The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV idea has two electric motors, one on each axle, for all-wheel drive, and is constructed on the body-on-frame STLA Frame EV platform. Ram claims that up to 100 miles of range may be added in just 10 minutes using 800-volt DC rapid charging at up to 350 kW, though no power outputs or performance figures were offered. The enormous truck’s maneuverability in tight spaces at low speeds should be improved by rear-wheel steering that can turn up to 15 degrees, and the air suspension has three levels: ingress/egress, aero, and off-road.
The concept, according to Ram, is also capable of Level 3 autonomous driving, in which the steering wheel retracts and “interior lights, the AR HUD, smart seats, and the steering wheel work together to deliver next-level situational awareness to the driver.” Dodge Ram electric truck can become a mobile movie theater by using external projectors that can also communicate with the driver. A phone app can be used to assess things and calculate how to best carry them in the Revolution, according to Ram, who also claims that drivers can control their smart home from the truck.
Before Dodge Ram electric truck is introduced in 2024, more details on the production version of the 1500 Revolution BEV will be released over the coming months. For the time being, the concept seems to give a fairly accurate picture of what is to come and some of the cutting-edge technology Ram hopes to introduce to the electric truck market.
Ram is not the only manufacturer with EV concepts, Apple’s is also getting ready for 2026 to continue its electric dream!
