Former US President launched a collection of 45,000 fantasy Trump NFT trading cards on Thursday, which he announced via Truth Social, the social media platform he created last year.
New Trump NFT trading cards go for $99
The Trump Digital Trading Cards, according to the collection’s website, include photographs of the president in the form of collectible baseball cards. The Polygon tokens cost $99 and may be acquired using ether (ETH) or fiat cash. Customers are asked at the conclusion of the checkout process how many Trump Trading Cards they wish to buy. As seen in the screenshot below, the pop-up advertises a guaranteed ticket to a gala dinner with Trump for purchasing 45 NFTs at once. A customer would have to pay $4455.
Collectors who buy one of the digital trading cards will be placed into a “sweepstakes” to win Trump experiences such as a zoom call, a dinner in Miami, or a cocktail hour at Mar-a-Lago. The trading cards will range in rarity from one-of-one to one-of-ten. “2, 5, 7, or 10 copies. No Trump Digital Trading Card will have more than 20 copies in existence,” according to the website.
Although Trump stated in July 2019 that he was “not a fan” of cryptocurrencies, he looked eager to promote his new collection. “GET YOUR CARDS NOW! Only $99 each! Would make a great Christmas gift. Don’t Wait. They will be gone, I believe, very quickly! ” he stated in a message on his site. The website also includes a promotional video where he states, “Each card comes with an automatic chance to win amazing prizes like dinner with me. I don’t know if it’s an amazing prize but it’s what we have.”
The idea was first criticized on Twitter, with some calling it a “scam.” Others cited prior stories about his dubious 2020 campaign fundraising activities and charges of shady spending. Following the news, shares of Digital World Acquisition Corp. (DWAC), a special purpose acquisition company that engaged in a planned merger transaction with Trump’s social media firm, fell by around 7%. While this is President Trump’s first official NFT initiative, Melania Trump debuted her first NFT collection “Cobalt Blue Eyes” nearly a year ago.
After his presidency, Donald Trump has been able to stay in the spotlight with interesting ventures such as the Trump NFT trading cards. Another one of those ventures was Trump’s social network Truth Social. Also, he is making headlines because of his interactions with the likes of Elon Musk.
