Is Vine coming back? There are at least rumors about it. Elon Musk started teasing the long-awaited comeback of Twitter’s short-form video tool Vine only a few days after he acquired ownership of the firm. But is Vine coming back? Then when?
Is Vine coming back?
Before being discontinued by Twitter in 2016, Vine was one of the earliest online channels for short-form video when it was launched in 2013. The rise to fame of Charli & Dixie D’Amelio was aided by TikTok, just as Logan and Jake Paul, two well-known influencers, were aided in their early days by Vine.
On October 27, 2022, after months of consideration and an attempt to back out of the agreement, Elon Musk became the legal owner of Twitter. Now, he’s spurred speculation about maybe reviving the venerable site. Is Vine coming back?
Musk’s potential plans to beat TikTok with Vine
Over four million people have voted in Elon Musk’s Twitter poll on whether to bring back Vine as of this writing, with 69.4% of them supporting the idea.
Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson of YouTube responded as soon as the concept of Vine’s return surfaced. “If you did that and actually competed with tik tok that’d be hilarious ,” he stated.
Elon enquired to the YouTuber what he could do to improve his social media platform over TikTok, and MrBeast offered some suggestions.
“No one is original anymore, whatever you do will be on every other platform the next month unless it has a deep moat. YouTube has shorts, Insta has reels, Reddit, Snapchat, Facebook, etc. all copied TT. Whatever you do make it hard to copy or it’s a waste of time IMO,” he said.

Donaldson gave Musk some advice, but Musk didn’t reply, so we can be sure he at least saw the tweet.
Twitter team might be working on Vine code
Elon Musk apparently gave Twitter Engineers the go-ahead to start working on a Vine revival, according to a report from Axios on October 31. The journal has received information about the platform’s potential revival from several sources before the end of 2022, which is just two months away.
The source code “needs a lot of work,” according to Axios’ sources, and hasn’t been altered or updated since Vine was shut down in 2016. We’ll keep an eye on this rumor for sure.
When will Vine come back?
As of this writing, it is unclear when or even if the co-founder of Tesla would revive Vine. It’s one of the numerous projects that Musk is currently working on, along with others like the possibility of charging customers $20 per month to be verified on the site.
As additional information about the rumored Vine rebirth becomes available, we’ll be sure to update this post. Is Vine coming back? Well, who knows!
