The Sims 4 free to play is coming! Publisher Electronic Arts has said that starting on October 18, everyone will be able to play the extremely addictive life simulator The Sims 4.

The Sims 4 was released in 2014, and since then, it has remained a favorite among players thanks to regular updates and expansion packs. With The Sims 4 being launched for free on all platforms in a little more than a month, that player base is now expected to experience a huge population increase.

When will Sims 4 be free to play?

That includes Xbox One, Xbox One S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, Origin, EA App, Mac via Origin, and Xbox Series X/S.

More players! More stories! More ways to chaos! ✨

This modification does not indicate that EA will no longer support the game. The publisher, on the other hand, said it would keep releasing new material for The Sims 4 indefinitely.

According to EA, “With The Sims 4 being free-to-play, our team is more committed than ever to developing new and impactful The Sims 4 experiences for our players and we will continue to develop and release packs, kits, and Sims Delivery Express drops for the foreseeable future.”

Of course, the established financial potential of more The Sims 4 content was undoubtedly a factor in both this decision and the decision to go free-to-play. Right now, it costs $984.43 to purchase all 59 of The Sims 4’s downloadable expansion packs through Steam.

It’s probably simpler to get people to spend money on a base game they’re not even sure they’ll like than it is to get them hooked on a game before convincing them to buy extra stuff.

Players who have bought the base game in the past will get a little gift as recompense for The Sims 4 being made free.

Anyone who already owns The Sims 4 has until October 17 to redeem the new in-game content pack Desert Luxe Kit for free. The Sims 4 now offers 28 new neutral-colored furniture pieces that emphasize organic elements like stone and wood. Launch The Sims 4 before October 17 and select the Desert Luxe Kit from the main menu to obtain it.

While a nice gesture, it’s a good thing the Desert Luxe Kit is being handed out for free. This ennui-inducing furniture pack is far from the most exciting content EA could have distributed to reward loyal, long-time Sims players.

EA also stated that users who sign up to its EA Play subscription service will get access to the $39.99 Get To Work Expansion Pack, while EA Play Pro subscribers will get both this and the $9.99 Toddler Stuff Pack.

The Sims 4 system requirements

The Sims 4 went on sale in 2014, and even then, it didn’t need the best systems to run. But it was not possible to operate with a weak system. After 8 years, the system requirement of the game remained extremely low. This means that almost anyone with a computer can play The Sims 4. We share the system requirements below.

The Sims 4 minimum system requirements:

OS: 64 Bit Required. Windows 7 (SP1), Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10
CPU: 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core 4000+ or equivalent (For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 or equivalent)

GPU: 128 MB of Video RAM and support for Pixel Shader 3.0. Supported Video Cards: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better, ATI Radeon X1300 or better, Intel GMA X4500 or better
