On August 23, 2022, sci-fi MMO developer Bungie will conduct a Destiny 2 showcase with the Lightfall addition serving as the main attraction.
Destiny 2 showcase is happening early
This is very similar to the presentation from August 2021 that provided us with our first glimpse of the Witch Queen expansion. This event should give us our first thorough look at Lightfall, Destiny 2’s 2023 expansion, and the following installment in the game’s Light and Darkness Saga, considering Bungie’s revised release timeline following the postponement of Destiny 2 The Witch Queen.
Destiny 2 showcase will be live on August 23.

The great enemy from the Witch Queen campaign’s finale, the Witness, appears in a brief teaser that was provided in advance of the Destiny 2 showcase. It also makes reference to the enigmatic doppelganger we encountered in the Black Garden during the Beyond Light campaign. There are glimpses of notable figures with ties to the Darkness, such as raid boss Rhulk and Calus, the subject of the Season of the Haunted.
The teaser’s title, “No Escape,” has been confirmed via a press release, and Bungie isn’t holding back on its assurances that fans will see “what’s next.”
Destiny 2 Lightfall hype is real
Lightfall appears to be what Bungie is preparing, according to all indications. A repeat of the Destiny 1 raid, which is reported to be Taken King’s beloved King’s Fall, is one of the new seasonal activities and rewards that will be unveiled on August 23 at Destiny 2 showcase, which also marks the beginning of Year 5’s next season. Regardless of what it provides, Season 18 will probably hasten the build-up to Lightfall, even if Bungie has been laying the groundwork for the upcoming expansion for months, if not years.
The fourth and final installment of the Light and Darkness story from Destiny 2 will be called Lightfall. It was previously intended to serve as the game’s conclusion, but Bungie has since added The Final Shape to its expansion schedule. Early 2023 is when Lightfall is anticipated to release, with The Final Shape following in early 2024. The current Destiny 2 tale will come to a close with this, but Bungie is dedicated to continuing to maintain the game for a very long time.
The hype for the upcoming Destiny 2 showcase always somewhat ruins the penultimate season. For instance, in Season of the Lost, it was clear that Savathun would break free of her cocoon and become the Witch Queen. Instead, how Savathun would escape her shackles was the main focus of Season of the Lost. Although the real-world date is the same, Bungie began the Lightfall marketing cycle a full season earlier. This means that we will have two seasons worth of clear buildup to the next expansion.
All of this is particularly intriguing when you take into account what Destiny 2’s 2023 expansion is most likely going to entail. The Witch Queen’s final tease suggests that The Witness, Destiny’s main antagonist, will personally invade our solar system in Lightfall. Additionally, if the name of the character is any indicator, things won’t go well for our heroes.
Players can anticipate a new place to explore in Lightfall as well as a new Darkness subclass element to go along with Stasis in terms of functionality. As usual, the expansion will also include new Exotics, Strikes, and a Raid. Lightfall is a complete mystery other than those anticipated additions, so interested Guardians will have to check in to the Destiny 2 showcase on August 23.
