Many of the details of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – and its position in the Xenoblade chronology – have been revealed since the game’s first announcement. Since then, footage of known personalities and locales has been circulating on the internet. Indeed, the game’s director confirmed in a letter to fans that the core graphic of the game incorporates the sword of Mechonis from Xenoblade Chronicles and the Urayan Titan from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. He also notes that this is “a new adventure bringing together the worlds…to take players into the future”. The title says it all: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Is Xenoblade Chronicles 3 the final game?
Unfortunately, determining how far into the future this sequel is situated is much more challenging. It is safe to infer that this game takes place many years after the events of previous games; Mechonis has fallen, and the titans have died out, which corresponds to the ends of previous Xenoblade games. Furthermore, the core cast of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 ends up on a new planet with a large sea. This universe is most likely the same as the one shown in the original Xenoblade Chronicles.
High Enita, Blades, and other creatures and entities from both games feature often in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 trailers and key art. In addition, a High Entia and a Blade appear in the initial trailer for this game, with characteristics similar to Melia and Nia. It’s unclear if this implies Shulk or Rex will make an appearance, although both of these races are known for having lengthy lifespans. Furthermore, the game introduces entirely new nations, areas, and technologies. If Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set in the future, these new modifications must have taken a long time to manifest.
