What is YouTube Premium?
The most famous and popular video-sharing site on the internet, YouTube offers a plethora of free content for your enjoyment. So, what exactly is the difference between the free and premium versions?
YouTube Premium is the premium subscription service for YouTube. It took the place of YouTube Red and comes with a number of perks, including the removal of all advertisements from YouTube services overall. This is what you’ll get if you subscribe to YouTube Premium:
- Ad-free videos — You won’t get any distracting ad breaks on any material on any device that has a Premium membership.
- Background play — You may even watch lengthy videos, podcasts, or music while your screen is locked.
- Offline playback — You can also download content for later offline viewing.
- YouTube Music Premium — All owners of a Premium Account have unlimited access to the exclusive music app and its millions of songs.
- YouTube Originals — You can access to exclusive ad-free Originals content of YouTube.
It’s worth noting that, while YouTube Originals used to be exclusively available to Premium members, they are now accessible to everyone. While it is possible to watch them ad-free with YouTube Premium, they are nevertheless only accessible to those who pay the extra fee.

YouTube Premium advantages
Most Premium subscription benefits are comparable to what they claim. It’s difficult to convey how fantastic the ad-free experience is until you’ve experienced it. Many of us block advertisements on our PCs, but mobile advertisements are far more difficult to escape. In reality, they compensate for the content you view, so finding a method to skip them without hurting creators is appreciated.
With double pre-roll and unskippable advertising, YouTube Premium provides a near-ad-free experience for anybody who spends a lot of time on the site.
When you’re casting or utilizing the smart TV app, watching your favorite creators on the big screen of your TV is a lot more pleasurable without continual distractions. There are no previews for YouTube originals or anything similar in the Premium experience, which is truly ad-free.
But, of course, YouTube Premium is also home to several video makers. While creators without a large following are like any other YouTuber on the platform in terms of revenue and popularity, they do benefit from revenue sharing with YouTube Premium. According to certain sources , this apparently covers monetized videos as well.
The nice stuff isn’t over, however. Your membership’s inclusion of Premium YouTube Music is unrivaled. There’s a large music library available through the service. We were able to locate every unpopular song that came to our minds. Even if the songs weren’t available in song format, we could still watch the music videos on our screens locked.
Even the most opinionated music aficionados will be satisfied with the breadth of genres and artists. For them, a YouTube Premium membership may be worth it just for the music. It’s just $2 more per month than Spotify Premium, but it comes with additional YouTube benefits as well.
YouTube Premium could be better though
Is YouTube Premium worth it, well, yes but it could be so much better. All of the marketing for YouTube Red, when it first launched, appeared to be focused on original content. Who wouldn’t want that? Unfortunately, YouTube hasn’t yet lived up to expectations in this area. Most recent originals aren’t limited to Premium members these days. You can view them with advertisements on a free account, however the quality appears to be degrading. The site also appears to be favoring celebrities over YouTubers.
This is disappointing because YouTube appears to be squandering the potential of its current creators. We’ve already seen how much better some of them could perform with larger budgets. Michael from Vsauce’ Mind Field, a documentary series, is an excellent example. It made for a fascinating and entertaining show.
It’s possible that even if you don’t mind the celebrity videos, Originals may be difficult to find. Although we’ve been a Premium subscriber for a few months now, we rarely get recommendations for Originals, and only a few have appeared on our homepages. That’s a shame because some excellent undiscovered gems, such as The Boy Band Con documentary, are well recommended. The Originals tab isn’t effectively organized either, making it tough to discover new shows to watch.
Finally, there is a lot of dissatisfaction with YouTube Premium’s price among its users. It’s difficult to justify spending $11.99 per month for an ad-free experience and some original material if you are not utilizing YouTube Music Premium. Especially after having spent a decade or more watching most of it for free.
