During the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, we saw none other than Minecraft Legends. Mojang’s new action-strategy game, Legends, is based on classic RPG concepts and features a huge open world. If you were thinking Dragon Quest: Builders, you’re not far off. So what do we know about Minecraft Legends so far?
Minecraft Legends release date
There is currently no release date for Minecraft: Legends, which will be released in 2023. The argument was once again that everything would be playable within a year, not next year. Because June 2023 is so far removed from November 2023, the language matters because it makes a big difference for a target audience with summer vacations.

This trailer was revealed at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, and it marked the start of Minecraft: Legends. It included a variety of settings and characters, as you might expect, but provided little in terms of narrative.
Will Minecraft Legends be on Game Pass?

Minecraft Legends gameplay
In a nutshell, the game is billed as an action strategy game. According to the official website, it combines elements of strategy with the “immersion” of action games. You’ll stay in a third-person perspective and perform actions including defending towns or battling hordes. It claims that you are “you are the center of every battle you lead, fighting alongside your allies while giving them directions” so there will undoubtedly be some sort of strategy or turn-based combat. There will also be plenty of construction activity, as expected.
Minecraft Legends story
Dennis Ries, the Executive Producer of Minecraft Legends, stated in a blog post that:
“In Minecraft Legends, players will discover a gentle land, both familiar and mysterious, full of lush biomes and rich resources. But this beautiful land is on the brink of terrible change – the piglin invasion has begun and threatens to corrupt the Overworld. It´s up to the player to make unexpected friends (including some classic mobs you’ll recognize from Minecraft) to form valuable alliances and lead the way into strategic battles against the fierce invaders from the Nether.
The game will have a very exciting campaign that will introduce many surprises for both new and seasoned Minecraft player alike. And for those looking to play with friends, there will be online campaign co-op and competitive multiplayer which we’re looking forward to sharing more on later this year.
To deliver our vision as an action strategy game, we knew we needed to partner with a team that could help us bring Minecraft Legends to life in the best way possible. We are thrilled to partner with Blackbird Interactive, a development team with a long track record of delivering strong strategy gameplay experiences.”
Ries also confirmed co-op and multiplayer components of the overall game, as well as the main campaign.
Minecraft Legends characters
According to the website, no named characters have been announced for Minecraft: Legends, but it appears that players will assume the role of a great hero:
“Minecraft Legnds is a brand new game that tells the story of the Overworld uniting against an invasion by the ravenous piglins. According to the legend, only you can bring together the mobs of the Overworld and help them defend their home. The events you will take part in are neither fact nor fiction; they are simply part of a tale that has been passed down from villager to villager. There are no records or evidence of the great hero that raised their banner to save the Overworld – all that remains is a powerful legend.”
