The highly praised Marvel original series is going to continue, What If…? season 2 is confirmed to come later this year.
Marvel’s first year of Disney Plus programming featured its share of triumphs and failures. The studio struggled in certain areas while succeeding in others as it learned long-form storytelling with the series. However, the most innovative of the new series seemed to have the tiniest footprint. It’s no surprise that What If… didn’t catch as many eyes as the live-action shows since it is the only animated show in the bunch. That said, it looks like What If…? will be Disney Plus’ first Marvel Cinematic Universe series to get a second season.

What If…? season 2 is coming later this year
It was reported over the weekend that Disney shared a production brief for Moon Knight. That brief appears to indicate that What If…? season 2 will premiere this year. If you need any proof, What If…? head writer A.C. Bradley put up the following tweet on Sunday, putting an end to any remaining uncertainty about the show’s return.

Getting What If…? season 2 this year isn’t a given. Disney shared a sizzle reel of programs and films set to premiere on Disney Plus in 2022 at the start of the year. Even though the creative team behind the program had stated that they wanted to release season 2 this year, What If…? was notably absent.
Disney also hosted its annual meeting of shareholders last week, at which it revealed a brief clip from the yet-to-release series I Am Groot. It was the first real glimpse of the series. Once again, Disney failed to reference What If…? season 2 in its announcement.
Upcoming Marvel shows on Disney Plus in 2022
At least four Marvel series are scheduled to debut on Disney Plus later in the year. Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and What If…? season 2 are among them. We also anticipate the release of I Am Groot and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

To begin with, Disney will inundate its streaming service with old Marvel programs before it even launches. On March 16th, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, The Punisher, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be available on Disney Plus.
Following the reintroduction of Daredevil and Kingpin in the MCU, fans are hoping that Marvel will continue to produce The Defenders. With so many other projects in development, it’s possible that Marvel may not be able to return its Netflix characters for some time.
