Alienware launched M15, which is a new gaming laptop that bets on AMD Ryzen processors. The near exclusivity that Intel has been maintaining for the last decade among OEMs when it comes to using its hardware in new laptops has come to an end due to its own merits and the good work of AMD with Ryzen processors. And this is good news for consumers looking for competition among the big players in the industry because it should result in more competition and better prices.
Dell had kept its high-performance and gaming series more exclusive to Intel. That has changed in the latest generation of products and another example is the new Alienware M15 R5 model that has appeared on Dell China’s website.
This gaming laptop is powered by the Ryzen 7 5800H, a CPU that, without being the most powerful from AMD for laptops, ensures performance with its 8 cores and 16 processing threads and working frequency up to 4.4GHz.
Its display is an LCD with standard size and resolution of 15.6 inches and FHD, but with refresh rate increased up to 165Hz to improve the smoothness in the execution of games, at a level that guarantees the NVIDIA RTX 3060 graphics as a base and an RTX 3070 as a higher configuration option.
Dell has not gone here to the extreme of ASUS that as we introduced you yesterday has equipped the Ryzen 9 5900HX together with a Radeon RX 6800M graphics. This is the first time ASUS has equipped a high-performance notebook with AMD CPUs and GPUs as a sign of the market opening we mentioned.
As for the overall design and construction of this Alienware M15 R5, it follows Dell’s high-performance signature line, with an aluminum chassis, an undeniable visual appeal with a black finish, backlit keyboard, and a special design for the cooling system to keep temperatures at bay.
Expect at least 16GB DDR4 RAM and a PCIe solid-state drive with a choice of 512GB or 1TB capacity. With an imminent launch, its price will not be cheap considering that the suggested RMB 16,999 for China which is about $2,600.
