Huawei Mate 40E 5G is a cheaper version of the Mate 40 family, with Kirin 990E and 64MP camera, and here is its specs, price and release date.
Huawei is fond of launching editions and reissues of past phones. Just yesterday it launched the Huawei MatePad New Edition, last month the Huawei P40 4G and now it’s the turn of the new Huawei Mate 40E 5G.
This is a revision of the October Huawei Mate 40 where a few tweaks have been made. It changes the Kirin 9000E for Kirin 990E, reduces its price and the camera gains a little more resolution in its main sensor.

There are a few changes in the camera
The new Huawei Mate 40E 5G is vastly similar to the original Huawei Mate 40, although a few more changes have been made than we saw, for example, between the Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 4G. For starters, the look is the same, although the new Huawei Mate 40E is available in a smaller range of colors than the previous model.
This means we keep the 6.5-inch OLED display, with curves all around, Full HD+ resolution, and a 90Hz refresh rate. The touch response rate is still 240Hz. One of its corners incorporates the front camera, which is 13MP, in a perforation.
On the back, we have the same design with a circular camera module, centered and signed by Leica. Everything is the same, although there is a change in the main sensor. We now have a 64MP main sensor, while it was 50MP in the original model.
The other lenses remain the same: A 16MP wide-angle with f/2.2 aperture that doubles as macro and an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto sensor. Combined, they offer 3x optical, 5x hybrid, and 30x digital zoom.
A less powerful processor
A part of the change in the camera, the big change in the Huawei Mate 40E is in the processor. Instead of having the Kirin 9000E, we have a Kirin 990E. For reference, the Kirin 9000E has eight cores 1 x 3.13GHz + 2 x 2.54GHz + 3 x 2.54GHz + 4 x 2.05GHz, while the Kirin 990E is composed of 2 x 2.86GHz + 2 x 2.36GHz + 4 x 1.95GHz. That’s a lot of numbers, but it sums it up easy: It’s a less powerful processor. Memory and storage remain the same, with 8GB RAM and versions with 128 or 256GB storage.
On the battery, we have the same 4,200mAh capacity with support for 40W fast charging and 40W wireless charging. The phone comes well loaded in connectivity: 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, minijack, and infrared.
