Whatsapp will add one of Snapchat’s most prominent features, it will allow you to send self-destructing photos.
Self-destructing photos are in development right now, and there is one key question about this feature, we don’t know if screenshots can be taken or not.
WhatsApp is bringing self-destructing photos feature
That option is vital if you really want to guarantee the privacy of the image. The only thing that is confirmed at the moment is that self-destructing photos will not be exported from WhatsApp and will not be saved in the internal memory or in the mobile’s gallery. But, it is possible to take a simple screenshot, we don’t know if the company has some measures against it.
According to the leaks, the feature will come to iOS and Android. WhatsApp is not very friendly to implement a screenshot detector, so we do not know if they would do it. Instagram Direct has had this self-destructing photos feature for some time now, and in the event that someone takes a screenshot, the person who sent it will be notified.
The devil is in the detail. Because there is always the possibility of using a screen recorder app. The screen recording is not detected by WhatsApp, and therefore the sender of the content would not be notified at any time.

The feature will be available for iOS and Android. The content will be blurred in the form of a preview, with a text that says “Tap to view”. Hitting it will open the image in full size and with the warning that “the media will disappear once you leave this chat.”
