Vivo is one of the manufacturers that have not yet presented a foldable smartphone yet, but that does not mean they have not got plans, recently a patent revealed that the company is preparing a foldable smartphone with a sliding screen.

Foldable smartphones made their debut in 2019 with the first models from Samsung and Huawei. Many people have been saying that 2021 would be the year of new form factors and we’ve started seeing some new projects.

A foldable smartphone by Vivo is on the way

Today a patent published by the company before the CNIPA (National Intellectual Property Administration of China). On this occasion, the design of the Vivo foldable shows a design more similar to the Galaxy Z Flip or Motorola Razr, but with a different system. The main new feature is that the screen can be unfolded, becoming larger and thinner at the bottom.

In addition, the screen also wraps around the back of the device, covering about 1/3 of it. This is useful because using this form factor selfies can be taken with the main camera, which means that the device would not need a notch, holes, or other elements to integrate a front sensor into its display.

The patent is a bit confusing as far as connections are concerned. There appears to be a power button, but there don’t seem to be any volume buttons on the front, so they could be activated by touch control. Some rumors also indicate that this Vivo will only be charged wirelessly and will only support eSIM. Xiaomi was already thinking about it for some time.

At the moment there is no clear information if Vivo will launch a foldable smartphone in the short term. For the moment, Vivo maintains its second position in China as the best-selling brand behind Huawei.
