Signal is bringing new features to compete with WhatsApp

Signal is bringing new features to compete with WhatsApp. Since WhatsApp announced its new privacy policy, Signal has gained millions of users and it is bringing new features to be able to compete with the most popular messaging app worldwide.

This app even received the approval of Elon Musk and Edward Snowden, because of its priority has always been on privacy; unlike Telegram, messages are always end-to-end encrypted because “privacy is not optional,” say its creators.

Signal is bringing some features that WhatsApp has

However, just because there are many reasons to use Signal doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best; after all, users are looking for more than just privacy. They also require features that they use every day and that are useful, or simply entertaining.

Now, it has received an update that brings some of these user-requested features. We are not talking about ‘important’ things like data encryption, but for many people, they are vital for the daily use of the app.

Meet “Day by Day”: Signal’s stickers

The best example is animated stickers, apps like Telegram have stickers for a long time. But until now this feature was not a priority for the app. In many apps, stickers have become a fun way to communicate with others.

Support for animated stickers is rolling out now with the first official animated Signal sticker pack, "Day by Day" by Miguel Ángel Camprubí. Signal’s first animated sticker pack, called “Day by Day”, is now available. In addition, users will be able to create their own stickers using Signal’s desktop app, although for now, it is not possible to create them on mobile. That opens the door for the community to create different packs.

Another new feature focuses on the customization of chats, allowing us to change the wallpapers. We can choose a different image for each chat or group we have, which will help us to differentiate them more easily at a glance; in addition, we can also choose a default background if we do not want to change them at all.

The status feature of WhatsApp is also very popular and now Signal has implemented it too. These features come with version 5.3 for iOS and Android; in the case of iPhone users, they will now also be able to configure the download of multimedia content and view full-size profile pictures.
