As we told you a few days ago, the Motorola Edge S has already reached the market, although only in China, so here is its specs, price and release date.
Motorola Edge S specs
Now that we have finally been able to see it and that the technical specifications of the Motorola Edge S have been made public, we can take a good look at this phone, which, if it stays in the same price range when it leaves China and arrives in the USA, can become a highly recommended purchase option, as it offers a value for money that deserves to be highlighted.
It is no surprise that the Motorola Edge S is built around a Snapdragon 870, the SoC recently presented by Qualcomm. Its performance is between the top of the range of 2020, the Snapdragon 865, and its successor, which aspires to be the choice of many manufacturers for their top of the range of 2021, the Snapdragon 888.
This Soc has a high-performance Cortex X1 core at 2.84 GHz, three Cortex A78 cores at x 2.42 GHz, and four Cortex A55 cores at 1.8 GHz, accompanied by an Adreno 650 GPU.
Motorola Edge S was announced almost immediately after the presentation of the Snapdragon 870, so it has been the first smartphone confirmed with this SoC, ahead of others that, like the review of the Xiaomi Mi 10, will also equip it soon.
Accompanying the SoC inside the Motorola Edge S are several configurations. One with 6GB LPDDR5x RAM and 128GB storage, another with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and the top of the range with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. To power this set, and as we expected, we find a 5,000mAh battery with 20W quick-charge support.
As for its screen, we find a 6.7-inch IPS LCD panel with FullHD+ resolution (2,520 x 1,080 pixels) and a pixel density of 409 dots per inch. Although, some rumors pointed up to 105Hz. Finally, the base value we saw the most, 90Hz, has been confirmed. And yes, we can already confirm that curved screens are a thing of the past for Motorola.
In terms of connectivity, a remarkable aspect, especially for its price, is that the Motorola Edge S is compatible with 5G NSA and SA networks and previous generations. It also offers WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. And if we talk about cables, it has a USB Type-C port and, good news for lovers of wired sound, 3.5mm jack.
Few surprises when it comes to the cameras of the Motorola Edge S. In the main one, located on an island on the back, we find three optical bodies: a 64MP main sensor, a 16MP wide-angle that also provides the macro mode function, and a 2MP depth sensor, which is complemented by a ToF sensor. The main camera is composed of two sensors (each of them peeking through a perforation in the screen), a 16MP main sensor, and an 8MP wide-angle sensor.
Motorola Edge S price and release date
As we have already indicated before, at the moment the Motorola Edge S is only available in the Chinese market, although it is expected that it will not be long before it arrives in other geographies, hopefully, the USA among them.
