Intel has announced that it will be recalling all of its Intel Optane SSD desktop storage units from the consumer market, so all stock of the Optane Memory M10, 800P, 900P, and 905P SSDs will no longer be manufactured, so once the available stock runs out, the units will no longer be available for purchase.
Intel kills its entire range of Optane SSDs for consumer computers
The only model that will continue to be accessible to consumer users is the Optane Memory H20, which is a much slower drive than the discontinued Optane and is designed primarily for the laptop and OEM market.
Intel will not provide a new Optane Memory SSD as a transition product for the customer market segment. Intel will focus on the new Optane H20 memory with solid-state storage for the customer market segment.
The discontinued models are as follows:
- Optane Memory 900P & 905P – AIC – 280 GB, 480 GB, 960 GB, 1.5 TB
- Optane Memory 900P & 905P – U.2 – 280 GB, 480 GB, 960 GB, 1.5 TB
- Optane Memory 905P – M.2 – 380 GB
- Optane Memory M10 – M.2 – 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB
- Optane Memory 800P – M.2 – 58 GB, 118 GB
The reason for this move is a step further after selling all its technology and memory factories to SK Hynix, so Optane will become a business sector focused brand due to higher profit margins.
