Microsoft and Oracle work on a virtual vaccination passport for COVID-19.
Of all the discouraging news surrounding the pandemic we are going through, the beginning of the worldwide vaccination campaigns seems to be the light at the end of the tunnel. That is why Microsoft and Oracle work on this project. However, returning to our normal life still looks distant.

After the expansion of the new COVID-19 variant, which was detected for the first time in the United Kingdom, several countries are already beginning to ask travelers to take negative tests for the new coronavirus, and this led several technology companies to propose a solution, a sort of virtual passport.
A coalition led by Microsoft and Oracle, along with the Mayo Clinic, is working to develop this “virtual passport for vaccination,” with which people can prove that they have indeed received their respective dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
This project, called The Vaccination Credential Initiative, is not for travelers only. It would also be ideal to begin returning to classrooms, offices, and our social life in general.
The coalition is also working with The Commons Project, which developed a virtual COVID-19 test certificate that is already accepted by several airlines.
The idea is that each person, instead of carrying a paper certificate, can carry their proof of vaccination without fear of losing it and with the confidence that their data will be safe, as it can be stored in a digital wallet or through a QR code.
