“I’m trying to make it clear how serious I am about this. People are attacking me because I have all these possessions, all these houses. All right, I won’t have them anymore,” he said. The head of SpaceX and Tesla estimates that in six years or less he will be able to start populating the red planet.
Musk, who currently has a net worth of 181.7 billion dollars, explained that a large investment is required to colonize another planet.
“I think it’s important for humanity to become a space civilization and a multiplanet species. It will take a lot of resources to build a city on Mars. I want to be able to contribute as much as possible,” he said in an interview with Business Insider.
In fact, Elon Musk said he even plans to rent a place to live with his wife and children: “I don’t really have much property with a monetary value, other than stock shares in my companies. If things get intense at work, I like to sleep in the factory or at the office. Obviously, I need a place for my kids, so I’ll rent something.”
Since June 2020, the mogul sold six luxury properties in Bel Air, Los Angeles, recovering almost $150 million.
Musk’s ambitious plans estimate that “within the next six years, I am very confident that humans will travel to Mars. If we are lucky, maybe four years, although we will try to send an unmanned spacecraft there in 2022.”
