A new report claims that this year’s iPhone 13 Pro might have a Samsung LTPO OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. While the iPhone 13 would still have the LTPS screen with a 60Hz rate.

We might see an iPhone 13 Pro with 120Hz OLED screen in 2021
While on the iPhone 14, we will probably see the 120Hz refresh screens on all models. The change might not be made on the iPhone 13 because, currently, only Samsung has the ability to respond to the demand of Apple. However, it is expected that by 2022, LG will have enough strength and production to sell its screens to Apple. This way, the company will not be dependent on Samsung’s technology only.
While the iPhone 13 Pro might have this improvement, the iPhone 13 (cheaper models) will probably continue with LTPS OLED displays. This means that they would probably still have a 60Hz refresh rate, to make the change to 120Hz would require some changes in hardware.
The difference between LTPS and LTPO, besides the fact that the second one is more expensive because of its manufacturing process, is that there is less energy spent by the smartphone, the saving can be between 5 to 15%, while allowing to raise the rate to 120Hz without adding accessories or changes to the hardware.
