The new Xiaomi roll-up smartphone could be the best design of the brand up to now.  This flexible and rollable screen is not new, since we have seen other companies are experimenting with this technology as well. These phones will sooner or later end up in our pockets so a smartphone with a small screen that we can stretch to make it as big as we can is the new trend. However, it comes with a strong push for “roll-up” smartphone screen technology, and Xiaomi seems to be one of the companies most actively working on it.

This is what the Xiaomi roll-up smartphone could look like

In late 2019, Xiaomi applied for a patent before the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a ‘flexible display device’. This patent was approved and published a few weeks ago but has been made public now. It shows us its design of this new technology.

Xiaomi has been watching its rivals enter a rollable smartphone war. Looking at the brand’s strategy, it might make sense for Xiaomi to overlook a foldable cell phone, to directly launch the first roll-up model.

The video shows us the design of a Xiaomi device, whose patent has been filed both in the United States Patent and Trademark Office and in the database of the World Intellectual Property Office.

In this case, we rely on what the Concept Creator video brings us, which seems not far from what it would bring us in the future. What can be seen is a phone that stands out for its two screens. A normal screen at the back and a flexible main roll-up screen.

  • Here is the list of Xiaomi phones that will get the Android 11 update
  • Xiaomi sold 50% more mobiles than last year

According to the patent, the user can determine the extent to which the screen can be extended. The screen can extend to almost 200% of its width. The system works using a support mechanism inside the housing, which ensures that the phone can be rolled in and out without showing visible wrinkles on the screen. It is also revealed that the phone will be able to operate with one of the screens off to save battery, or with both simultaneously.

It also has three cameras

Another feature that we can see in this concept design is its three camera setup in the back. But let’s remember that this is just a concept, so we will have to see in the future what Xiaomi plans for this roll-up smartphone or if they decide to go for a foldable model instead.
