Amazon has just introduced a new Prime Video feature for chatting with friends while viewing content on the platform, its name is Watch Party and it is designed for the desktop browser version.

  • Amazon Luna opens its streaming service in early access

If you are already a Prime customer you don’t have to do anything extra, the new Watch Party feature will automatically appear as an option in the playback of series, movies, and other Prime Video content at no extra cost.

Enjoy the Watch Party feature with your friends

Now when you choose any content on primevideo.com you will see a new “Watch Party” button along with other options such as Share and Comments. Clicking on it takes you to a new window where you must type the username you want to chat with.

In addition, a link will be generated for you to share with up to 99 other people to enter the chat and watch the playback simultaneously. The person who creates the Watch Party will control the video, but each participant can control their own audio and subtitle settings.

While this type of feature is not new and other platforms, such as Disney+’s group watch. Prime Video takes it a step further by offering a chat as well. Perhaps that’s why they haven’t implemented the function (at least for now) in their applications for Smart TV, or even Fire TV.

For more popular services like Netflix, there are only third-party solutions in the form of extensions that work quite well.
