How to check available storage in an Apple Watch? The internal storage capacity of an Apple Watch is almost a mystery since Apple doesn’t usually show this information. In part, this is normal, since for smartwatches storage is not the biggest issue. In any case, even if it’s just out of curiosity, we will tell you the solution.

Using an iPhone today with 8GB, 16GB or 32GB storage is not impossible, but it is hard to manage. However, considering smartwatches, most data is stored on the iPhone, since the Apple Watch has limited ability to save photos in its internal memory.

While it is true that there is content such as podcasts available for download, at least in the GPS + Cellular version, in the end, they are not really large files to fill the storage. In any case, the watchOS system optimizes the space automatically so it doesn’t run out of free space.

While there is usually not a really big variation between generations of the Apple Watch, there have been interesting jumps between them.

  • Apple Watch (original): 8GB.
  • Apple Watch Series 1: 8GB.
  • Apple Watch Series 2: 8GB.
  • Apple Watch Series 3: 8GB (GPS) or 16GB (GPS + Cellular)
  • Apple Watch Series 4: 16GB.
  • Apple Watch Series 5: 32GB.
  • Apple Watch Series 6: 32GB.
  • Apple Watch SE: 32GB.

How to check available storage in an Apple Watch?

How much space watchOS occupy?

As with any device of this type, the storage capacity of the Apple Watch is not fully available to the user. There is a part that has to be allocated to watchOS, the operating system that runs these watches. Although there are no exact figures on how much each version ends up occupying in each clock, it is said that it is around 5GB, so the capacities of all these computers would really have to be subtracted from that amount.

How to check available storage in an Apple Watch?

There is a way you can calculate how much space is being taken up by watchOS on your Apple Watch and, at the same time, see how much space you have left on the device. To do this you must open the application menu of the watch, go to Settings > General > Information. You can also check it in the iPhone’s Watch app, by going to the “My Watch” tab and following the path General > Information.

In this section, you will find important data such as the name you have given or the serial number of the device, but also the total internal memory capacity that you have at your disposal, of course, the free space. It should be noted that here you can also check the number of songs, photos, and applications you have stored on your computer.

This way you’ve learned how to check available storage in an Apple Watch.
