Why does new direct message icon appear on Instagram? The paper airplane of Instagram’s direct messages has disappeared and is now replaced by a new messaging app icon. It looks like a Facebook Messenger icon, this move is made intentionally and we will tell you why.

Why does new direct message icon appear on Instagram?

As we reported a few weeks ago, Instagram’s direct messaging feature has been transformed into Facebook Messenger. That’s why many users of the application have started to see the Instagram paper airplane icon replaced by the Facebook Messenger icon.

We knew that Facebook intended to merge its main messaging platforms into one. However, it was not until just a few weeks ago that the company kicked off its master plan.

It is now possible to talk to people on Facebook Messenger through Instagram’s direct messages, and the other way around. This way, it is possible to see the red bubble with unread messages, whether they are from Instagram or Messenger.

Why the new direct message icon appears on Instagram?

So, if the next time you open Instagram you find a very different icon from the original in the direct message tab, don’t worry. Although this is an apparently irreversible change, the only thing that will change for you -beyond the icon- is that you will now be able to chat with your Facebook Messenger contacts without leaving Instagram.
