This won’t be the first 108MP phone for Xiaomi
Currently, Xiaomi offers four phone models with a main camera of 108MP: the Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, Mi Note 10 Pro and the Mi Alpha.
XDA-Developers reports that Xiaomi is preparing at least two new smartphones for the same series of products. The first would be equipped with a main camera of 64MP and the second will carry a 108MP main sensor.
The two models have been identified in the MIUI 12 code under the references Gauguin and Gauguin Pro. In both cases, there are four lenses at the rear. It is unclear whether the Xiaomi company will reuse the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX, as in its previous phone models with 108MP camera.
There might be regional differences in the new Xiaomi phones
According to the report, the Gauguin series will be available in three regional variants: one for China, one for India and the last for the rest of the world.
According to Digital Chat Station, the camera specification may also differ for the Chinese and global versions.
The other technical characteristics of the phones are not yet known. On the other hand, it seems that Xiaomi will equip these next smartphones with Qualcomm chips, in place of MediaTek Dimensity.
In the code linked to these two new high-end references, we also learn that the name of the Gauguin model should end with “J17” and that the Gauguin Pro model with “J17Pro”.
It will probably take us for several weeks to learn more about the new Xiaomi smartphones. The predictions are here though: will it be called the Mi Mix 4 or Mi Note 11? We’ll see…
