NVIDIA lowers GeForce RTX 2060 price to $299 to compete with the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. This move comes just before AMD’s new graphics card goes on sale, next Thursday.
What is behind the price cut for GeFore RTX 2060?
Presented at CES 2020, the Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card will sell for $279. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card costs exactly the same, but according to AMD, its new product will be ahead of its direct competitor in terms od performance. Therefore, NVIDIA somehow had to react: either reduce the cost of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or markdown the GeForce RTX 2060. The choice was made on the latter, which is undoubtedly a big advantage for people looking for a new graphics card.
Which one is better, RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT?
Of course, with a price of $299, the GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card cannot be considered a direct competitor to the Radeon RX 5600 XT. However, this NVIDIA graphics card has higher performance than the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, and in addition, it offers all the “charms” of the Turing architecture – RT cores for accelerating ray tracing and tensor cores for DLSS. Therefore, for a slightly higher price, the GeForce RTX 2060 looks more interesting than the Radeon RX 5600 XT, for now.
It is also worth noting that such adjustments are a quite rare thing for NVIDIA to do. This is probably why NVIDIA didn’t announce the price cut, but told that the card can now is on sale for $299.
